HeART On Your Sleeves: Wearable Art Project
For the heARTburn 2025 art gallery exhibition, we invite you to connect with the Burning Man principle of "radical self-expression" in a series of three FREE workshops! All workshops will take place at artsPlace, Canmore, from 1:30-4pm.
Explore your artistic identity in a culture of radical freedom of expression, inclusion and participation, while developing wearable festival art. These beautiful creations can hang in the ArtsPlace gallery for the HeARTburn exhibition OR be worn to the festival itself!
The workshops are suitable for adults and families with supervised children. Drop in to any session, or attend all three. Work together in groups or solo.
SESSION 1, Saturday, November 9th
Exploration of radial self-expression and wearable art concepts.
Brainstorm and explore ideas of expression and identity through wearable art. Create a mood board using colour, texture, material, shape, emotion, figure, form, and personality. Use this to develop your plan for your art piece and decide on what part of the body you will be creating it to adorn.
SESSION 2, Saturday, November 23rd
Structure and base piece creation.
Use found, made, sculpted, sewn, glued or re-purposed items to create the base for your wearable art. Let your imagination run wild as decide how you will decorate it. Will your piece have moving features? Lights? Other electronics? Fur? Spikes
SESSION 3, Saturday, November 30th
Decorating.
With your base structure created we’ll decorate your wearable art piece. Have fun working on the details of your creation, using a selection of materials to complete your masterpiece!
